Argument indexing in Kamang

چکیده
Abstract Kamang (Alor-Pantar, non-Austronesian/Papuan) has a typologically unusual system of argument indexing, in which the S or P can be indexed on verb by one several prefix paradigms. Some verbs always show while others exhibit differential indexing (DAI). In DAI, use particular paradigm zero marking depends different (combinations of) factors. We investigate effects role (S, P), independent realisation, animacy and topicality argument, lexical stipulation. perform quantitative analysis these factors for first time discourse, drawing an annotated corpus spoken Kamang. A complex picture emerges is best viewed not as single system, but multiple subsystems are relevant given context, do operate all strategies equally.

Argument or no argument ?
We will call such adjuncts instances of the X or no X construction It was suggested in the middle 1980s by Alexis Manaster-Ramer that well-formed instances of X or no X involve a string X of unbounded length preceding or no, with an exact copy following (for a brief allusion to it in print, see Manaster-Ramer 1986). This claim has received hardly any discussion at all in the subsequent literatu...

متن کاملArgument Inference from Relevant Event Mentions in Chinese Argument Extraction
As a paratactic language, sentence-level argument extraction in Chinese suffers much from the frequent occurrence of ellipsis with regard to inter-sentence arguments. To resolve such problem, this paper proposes a novel global argument inference model to explore specific relationships, such as Coreference, Sequence and Parallel, among relevant event mentions to recover those intersentence argum...

متن کاملSemantic Argument Classification Exploiting Argument Interdependence
This paper describes our research on automatic semantic argument classification, using the PropBank data [Kingsbury et al., 2002]. Previous research employed features that were based either on a full parse or shallow parse of a sentence. These features were mostly based on an individual semantic argument and the relation between the predicate and a semantic argument, but they did not capture th...
